Itinerary
First day – Arriving at Nals/South Tirol
You will receive the exact hotel address and further information with your travel documents, which will be sent to you approx. 14 days before departure. You should arrive by approx. 6 pm. There you will meet your group and the guide. After the tour briefing, you will have dinner together.
Second day – From Nals to Merano 2000 – 35 km, 1150 m elevation gain
We start at Nals, after a delicious breakfast, into the Dolomites. Then the cable car takes us up to the Saltner Rücken with its magnificent larch forests. It's partly steep uphill to the cappuccino break. After that it gets technical for a short while, and we reach the lunch hut on nice trails. With a view of Merano and the snow-covered peaks of the Texel Group, we cycle up to our wellness hotel at 1600 meters.
Third day – From Merano 2000 to Sarntheim – 30 km, 800 m elevation gain
The peaks of the Merano 2000 are already close enough to touch. We pedal up to the mountain station and then reach the spectacular panoramic region. A wonderful, partly technical high-altitude trail takes us over the Kreuzjoch to the midday hut. The highlights of the afternoon are the legendary Stoanernen Mandl and, of course, the long descent into the Sarntal valley.
Fourth day – From Sarntheim to Chiusa – 45 km, 1100 (1400) m elevation gain
We set our sights on the Rittner Horn on the next stage. Wide views make up for the long ascent. If you want, you can save yourself the cable car and gain another 300 meters in altitude. Lunch break at 2000 meters above sea level. Dolomite panorama at its best! Another great high-altitude trail with a long descent into the Eisack valley follows. Overnight stay in the medieval town of Chiusa.
Fifth day – From Chiusa to Alpe di Siusi – 40 km, 1100 m elevation gain
We cycle up a lonely asphalt road into the shadow of the Sciliar massif. A pleasant cycle path takes us directly to the valley station of the Alpe di Siusi cable car. The largest high-elevation Alpine meadow in Europe spreads out before us. We take a panoramic tour and spend the night in a hut at an altitude of 2050 meters.
Sixth day – From Alpe di Siusi to Lake Carezza/Welschnofen – 36 km, 850 m elevation gain
This is how every day should start. The rocky massifs of the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto are close enough to touch. A steep climb up to the Duron saddle and the rough but spectacular descent into the Fassa valley begins. The Italian feeling spreads. We spend the night at the foot of the Catinaccio near the legendary Lake Carezza.
Seventh day – From Lake Carezza/Welschnofen to Nals – 45 km, 900 m elevation gain
For the grand finale, we cross the popular biking area of Obereggen. The white walls of the Latemar rise into the sky behind us. The impressive Sciliar also reappears. Forest paths take us to the lunch stop near Deutschofen. A short afternoon climb and a long and sometimes technical descent takes us directly into the Adige Valley. We celebrate our arrival at the hotel with its outdoor pool.
Eighth day – Departure
After breakfast, individual journey home.
My Tip for Transalp Alpe di Siusi
„Anyone who loved our Transalp Engadin or Three Peaks will love this tour. On this Dolomites tour, we cycle almost every day at an altitude of over 2000 meters on the best MTB trails. Thanks to the ascent aids, we are always in a high alpine landscape without having to pedal the otherwise necessary 2000 meters of altitude completely under our own steam. The daily stages of this level 2-3 mountain bike tour vary between 30 and 45 kilometers with 800 to 1250 meters of altitude. That sounds easier than the tour is. Some super trails await us on the mostly long descents. Nevertheless, the route never gets too extreme, as we speed downhill on small asphalt roads for parts of the tour. Simply exhilarating.“
