The cathedral of St. Johann, visible from afar, symbolizes the importance as an old trading place. If you arrive early enough you should not miss a short sightseeing and the old town of St. Johann. In the evening you will meet your group and the guide. Dinner together.
Opening in the beautiful region around Salzburg. We follow the Salzach upstream and leave the Berchtesgaden and Salzburg Alps behind us. In front of us are the glaciers of the Hohe Tauern. A 200-meter step in altitude brings us to the Gastein Valley. We follow the bike path to the chic spa town of Bad Gastein. The waterfall and the venerable hotels have real cult status. With the help of the Tauern lock, we reach our destination for the day, Mallnitz.
A brisk descent brings us down into the valley of the Möll. Here we turn onto the Drau cycle path and follow it until shortly before Spittal. However, we don't miss out on a detour to Lake Millstatt. There is even an amusing boat ride before we reach our destination for the day in Spittal. Overnight stay in the city hotel.
We leave the comfort zone of the Drau cycle path and head for a small Carinthian village. Lake Egelsee should not be missing from any of Austria's advertising brochures. Further on, four Carinthian lakes line up like a string of pearls along our stage. Our destination is a venerable and comfortable city hotel in the historic center of Villach.
Ciclopista Alpe Adria is the name of today's royal stage. Before we reach the spectacular bike path, we have to climb a bit to the border to Italy. Over old bridges and long tunnels we reach Bella Italia. Overnight stay close to Venzone.
In Venzone the narrow valley opens up. The old town on the mighty Tagliamento River is worth the trip. Via small paths we reach our destination for the day, San Daniele. It is not only the ham that has made this ancient town famous all over the world. Overnight stay in a wellness resort in the middle of the cultural landscape.
Italy all over. With the last mountains of the Alps behind us, we start off into a lush landscape. We cycle past magnificent palazzos and lavish farms. The rich Venice shaped this country. But even the Romans appreciated the local specialties. We also enjoy the Italian cuisine and hospitality. After a long day of cycling we reach our destination on the Adriatic Sea. The wide sandy beach of Lignano is simply magnificent.
After breakfast, the bikes are loaded onto the bus. Return trip by bus back to St. Johann. Upon arrival, everyone travels home individually.
„Acrossing the Alps and arriving the wide sandy beach of Lignano. The Transalp Trekking Alpe Adria has something special. The start in the Gastein Valley in the middle of the mighty Tauern, the lovely Carinthian lake landscape with the gem Lake Millstatt and then, of course, the sensational Ciclovia Alpe Adria. You have to have ridden this bike path once in your life. Great finale with old towns and magnificent villas in Friuli. And of course: the sea.“
